In traditional manufacturing, decisions are often based on a combination of training, tribal knowledge, and hard-won experience.

There's a reason apprenticeship periods are so long, the number of variables that influence a process is massive.

But this raises an important question.

Why can’t we help people make better decisions earlier in their careers?

The answer might lie in conditions, specifically, understanding "what condition, when".

You might already be familiar with condition-based maintenance: monitoring equipment health and acting when thresholds are breached.

But what if we apply that same logic across the board?

We call this condition-based actions, using real-time context to drive timely, intelligent decisions.

Here’s an example.

A steel manufacturer operates blast furnaces. On humid days, the ore they use absorbs more moisture. When that damp ore goes through the furnace, it takes more energy to process.

Now, pause and ask: What’s the real condition we should act on?

⇨ High humidity in the air?
⇨ High moisture in the ore?
⇨ High energy usage in the furnace?

All of them represent different conditions, and understanding the relationship between them is key.

Because this one shift in ore condition doesn’t just affect energy use. It ripples into:

✅ More wear on the furnace lining (which increases maintenance costs)
✅ Potential impacts on product quality

In other words, conditions affect everything, from reliability to sustainability.
