Just like how in the mid-20th-century, light transistor current allowed you to drive big industrial machines, Industrial IoT allows you to use lightweight protocols to initiate massive workloads in the cloud. This is more relevant in industrial plants, where most devices and systems have limited internal intelligence to deal with complex workflows. Serverless computing, a Functions as a Service offering by most cloud platforms that allows you to write pieces of code without having to worry about configuring or managing web servers, offers a highly functional method for carrying out plant initiated actions. And it goes without saying that this enables scale from simple notifications, to command and control instructions back to the plant, and much more complex IT operations across your organisation.
